Protein bread toastie with roast beef and mustard

Bread-free Phase 1 toastie on protein bread with lean roast beef and sharp mustard, low-carb.

10 min totaal 1 portie 300 kcal p.p. 33 g protein

A protein bread toastie with roast beef and mustard gives you the crispy, savoury satisfaction of a classic toastie, but entirely tailored to a high-protein lifestyle. The protein bread turns golden brown and crunchy, the lean aged cheese melts beautifully, and the roast beef with sharp mustard delivers an adult, savoury flavour. Comfort food without the guilt.

In Phase 1 of the protein diet, the emphasis is on plenty of protein and few carbohydrates, and this toastie plays cleverly into that. The protein bread keeps carbs low, whilst roast beef and cheese together deliver substantial protein. That combination creates a lasting feeling of fullness, so you can easily make it to the next meal without craving something sweet.

Lovely with a fresh salad of cucumber and tomato or a few gherkins on the side for extra bite.

Zo maak je het

  1. Spread one slice of protein bread with the mustard.
  2. Top with roast beef and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  3. Grind some pepper over and place the second slice on top.
  4. Heat the butter in a frying pan on medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the toastie on both sides until golden and crispy, with the cheese melted.
  6. Cut in half and serve warm.

Bewaren

This toastie is best enjoyed straight after cooking so it stays crispy. Make it fresh rather than storing it.

Variatietips

Try swapping the roast beef for turkey fillet or lean cooked ham. A thin layer of light cheddar instead of mature cheese gives it a slightly different flavour.
